SCITT Brochure

Insignis Academy Trust SCITT is working in partnership with Teach First to provide School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) leading to Qualified Teacher Status and a PGCE. The one-year, school based, research-led training will give you plenty of hands-on experience and allows you to train to teach in an Insignis Academy Trust (IAT) school.

As a trainee teacher at Insignis Academy Trust SCITT, you will train in one of our schools and gain second placement experience at another of our contrasting schools; have opportunities to apply for relevant ECT roles in all of our schools and further develop your career across our growing Trust.

You will be able to train in the following subjects at Insignis Academy Trust SCITT:

You can apply to visit our schools to get unpaid experience in the classroom before you start your initial teacher training (ITT).

It can help you:

  • decide if you want to train to be a teacher
  • discover if you’d like to teach in a primary or secondary school
  • build a relationship with a school you might want to work for later

At the start of the programme in September, you will have two weeks of intensive training which will focus on the core areas of teaching such as behaviour management and lesson planning. You will have a further two separate weeks of intensive training later in the year.

After an initial two weeks of training, you’ll spend four days a week in the classroom, learning from outstanding teachers at Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School or Princes Risborough School. You’ll observe lessons, develop your lesson-planning skills, and gain first-hand teaching experience—all with the support of a dedicated mentor who will guide you every step of the way.

One day a week is dedicated to focused training and development, carefully designed in collaboration with Teach First’s expert curriculum designers. This training is structured to match the school year, ensuring you're always learning the most relevant skills at the right time. With a mix of online and face-to-face sessions, you’ll gain the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a PGCE.

To broaden your experience, you’ll also complete a six-week placement in an alternative Insignis or partner school, starting in January. This ensures you gain insight into different school environments, preparing you for a versatile and successful teaching career.

Join us and take the next step towards becoming an inspiring and confident teacher!
