Insignis Varsity Games
IAT are getting ready for another fantastic week of sport and play—with the expansion of the Insignis Varsity Games.
Insignis Varsity Games (IVG) 2024 saw a significant increase in participation, with nearly 300 students from targeted diverse backgrounds engaging in co-curricular sport and physical activity. Taking part in student voice inspired activities: climbing, table tennis, kinball, inclusive multi skills, volleyball and mixed rounders. This represents a 43% increase from the previous year.
Student quote: "I had the chance to play a new sport which is rarely available in the local area, and really enjoyed it".
Staff quote: "This is a great opportunity for students who are less active to take part in extra curricular activity. This has had a positive impact on attendance at our internal extra curricular clubs".
As IAT continues to expand, we anticipate further growth in IVG participation. In 2025, we aim to involve around 430 students, targeting those with lower activity levels. We are confident that this initiative will not only promote physical health but also inspire lasting positive changes in students' lifestyles.
"I really enjoyed the climbing competition. I hadn't ever tried a climbing wall before but now me and my friends who went have been to the climbing wall in MK 4 times!" (Yr7 IAT student 2024).
Stay tuned for more details soon. In the meantime, let’s keep the momentum going! Continue encouraging 60 minutes a day of PE, sport, and play with Mo’s Mission, led by our National School Sport Champion, Sir Mo Farah CBE.
Let’s get moving together!
Four-time Olympic Champion Sir Mo Farah CBE, National School Sport Champion for the Youth Sport Trust charity, has launched Mo’s Mission to empower more children in the UK to be physically active. He wants all children and young people to get 60 minutes a day of PE, sport and play.
Sir Mo Farah said;
"Every young person should grow-up happy, healthy and with the opportunity to achieve their full potential. Ensuring they are physically active for 60-minutes a day is an important part of making this happen."
"Too few children in the UK are exercising regularly and it’s having a detrimental impact on their health and wellbeing. In my new role as National School Sport Champion, it is my mission to get as many young people moving on a daily basis as possible. The power of sport helped me find my passion as a young person, so I’m firmly encouraging kids across the UK to get involved in ‘60 minutes a day - of PE, sport and play.’"
